Highway travel for private vehicle owners is all set to get simplified across India as Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced the introduction of a FASTag-based annual pass system. FASTag-based annual pass: Key details
This annual pass will allow up to 200 highway trips or be valid for one year from the date of activation – whichever limit is reached first. It will be applicable exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles and will allow more cost-effective access to the National Highway network across India. The system will be enabled via FASTag, with activation and renewal options available soon through the Rajmarg Yatra App, and on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).By eliminating repeated toll stops and enabling a one-time payment structure, the initiative is expected to significantly cut down waiting time, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall driving experience on national highways.
“This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimizing disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.” the social media post from Gadkari said.
